About

Tau Beta Sigma Eta Beta functions as the University of North Alabama Band’s service organization. Our mission is to cultivate leadership within our band program while assisting the UNA Bands. Alongside this, we promote educational achievement, the appreciation of music, and help our community when possible.

History

The Eta Beta chapter began when a petitioning group named Sigma Delta Delta (EDD) was formed in the spring semester of 1982. The sponsor during colonization was departmental flute teacher, Mrs. Gloria Simpson. Mrs. Simpson was the wife of Dr. James K. Simpson (a former UNA Band Director and Music Department Chair). As an Alumni sister of Tau Beta Sigma, Mrs. Simpson saw the potential and need for a chapter at the University of North Alabama. Dr. Edd Jones was the sponsor until fall of 2000, when his son, Dr. Lloyd Edward Jones III, became Director of Bands. Eta Beta was established by their Big Sister Chapter, Epsilon Alpha (University of South Carolina) on May 15, 1983, and acquired a Little Sister Chapter, Eta Phi (Vanderbilt University) on December 5, 1987.
